MIFA (Malaysian International Fashion Alliance) hosted its 7th instalment of the Malaysia International Fashion Week 2009 (M-IFW 09) at Pavilion between 4-8 November. On the final day I attended a BDA (Bumiputra Designers Association) Fashion Show. It was a glitzy star-studded event. I caught sight of the likes of Camelia, Syafinaz, Noryn Aziz, Nora Danish, Anita Sarawak, Amber Chia, Chef Wan (No he wasn't modelling) to name a few.  

Headlining the show were Tom Abang Saufi, Radzuan Radziwill, Kapas Couture, Syaiful Baharim, Embun, as well as talented young designers, Nik Erwan Roseli, Amir Luqman, Hatta Dolmatt, Azura Couture, Hazree Wahid, Faizell Azraf, Khairi Sufi, Nazreen Idris and Zery Zamry.

Habib Jewels provided the gorgeous blings for the night from its ‘Architechural Collection’.

The collections showcased by the talented up and coming young designers gives the local fashion industry a boost with their vibrant, fresh ideas and sometimes garish outfits. Though looking at the amount of celebrities used by the designers to model their collection it would have been best themed, 'Battle of the Celebrity Muses'.

There were performances by Syafinaz, Noryn Aziz belting out an incredible jazzy number and Hattan. Syafinaz did a soprano piece which sealed her title as Malaysia's Super Soprano. It was the first time I heard Noryn Aziz sing, wonderful jazz voice. Hattan performed his classic ‘Sekuntum Mawar Merah’ which still sounds great.

After the evening ended I went around taking more pictures. I wasn't the only one fussing about mind you, so were a whole lot of people. Cam whoring! Never thought I'd use the phrase. Lol!

In total I took about 380 pictures. Thats a record for me at a single event. Of course it's not all of me, that would be beyond being self-obsessed, self-absorbed and everything else. I might put up more pics when I have the time.

I personally feel that this year's BDA Fashion Show was more exciting as compared to last year's. Not to mention I was greedily yet happily munching away the earlier part of the evening. Yummy!

The MAC Magic Mirth & Mischief Make Up Workshop organised by CLEO was held at The Westin last Saturday. It was limited to 25 seats.  Breakfast was served. Nasi lemak, mini paus & pastries. 

It started at 11 am and was conducted by Yokoe Chan, MAC's Senior Artist using Ayu the Promotions Executive for CLEO as a model. The workshop made full use of MAC's latest Holiday Collection.

This took 2 1/2 hours to do. Lol! Now let me see, I love the Studio Fix Fluid. The colour was very close to my natural skin colour. I noticed that the Prep & Prime managed to mattify my skin for a few hours. A lot longer than base or primer from other brands that I've tried. Hmm.. Perhaps I might give a few things from MAC a try after all.. ;)

Oo.. Nearly forgot about the doorgift. Each participant recieved a Tricolour Lipglass in Triple-Yum as well as a One-on-one Make Up Consultation where I get to redeem a Charge Water Skin Hydrating Mist & Prep + Prime Skin Refined Zone Sample.

But the lighting in the room wasn't very good though. It was a bit difficult to really see the intensity of the colours while applying. Orange lights.. sheesh.. Otherwise, it was a good workshop. :)

Make up artists from different brands have their own way and style of applying make up. At the workshop David shared with the participants Clinique's know-hows & how to's when it comes to make up.

David who conducted this session said, “Make up is about options, not about rules”. He went on to show us how to get the perfect fresh look. After demonstrating on one of the participants, we were left to our on devices. ;)

 

 

1) Foundation – Custom Fit

 • When looking for colour, try at the jaw line.


• Check skin undertone – either cool/warm.


• When applying foundation, blend downwards with a foundation brush.


• If you want to sit the foundation in, warm up the palms of your hands and press in on your skin.


• Concealer – Either for blemishes or under eye.


• Tip : Mix concealer with a bit of foundation then apply to blemish or scar to last longer.


2) Loose Powder

• Pour a bit of powder into your palms and press in i.e. powder rub down.

• Blend away access with brush.

3) Blusher

• Smile!

• Press brush onto apple of cheeks and sweep towards hairline in upwards motion.

• For a pop of colour, tap a bit on apple of cheeks.

 

4) Eyeshadow

• Apply base – Blend all over lids to brighten up eye and to make eyeshadow last longer especially on oily lids.

 

• Types – High shimmer, Light weight shimmer, Matte

 

• Brush used on eye area depends on how big or small the area is.

 

• Lightly tap on lids.

 

• Note : Clinique brushes are anti-bacterial.

5) Eyeliner

• To apply – Press ring finger on top of eyelid and draw.

6) Mascara

• Look down, sweep wand downwards.

 

• Open eye and apply with zig zag motion upwards.

 

• Clinique mascara naturally curls eyelashes without use of curler.

 

• Tip : To curl naturally, rub finger into palm to warm it up then put onto lash pushing upwards after applying mascara.

High Impact Curling Mascara. This Mascara Is Amazing! I have one.. ;)

7) Eyebrow

• Fill in eyebrow lightly with pencil and blend with brush for natural look.

8) Lips

• Again, smile! and apply.

• Lip Pencil – Fill in lips with lip pencil for lipstick to last longer.

• Choose between lipstick and/or lipgloss.

• Gloss – Dab on centre of lips and blend outwards.

The make up session was fun. I got to try Clinique’s new Lip Smoothie in Raisin. Love the colour. Also love the Fresh Bloom All Over Colour in Camelia.

A table was set up outside the room to enable participants to purchase any of their products after the session. Makes things very convenient.

The Clinique workshop held on Saturday at Sime Darby Convention Centre was organised by Women’s Weekly for its readers. I got there about 9.20 am. Why so early you wonder. I woke up at 6 am, so I figured might as well.

Two plateful of cookies greeted me after I registered. What a way to start off the morning. Cookies.. ;p

About 10 am we were ushered into the Eugenia Room. 5 tables were set up and provided with a range of skincare products. Looks fun already!

My table was attended by 2 counter managers. We were introduced to the skincare products starting with their signature 3-step routine. The 3-step products are categorised according to skin type. I’m a type 3 – combination skin which is oilier on the t-zone but cheeks are comfortable without moisturiser.

1) Make Up Remover

2) Cleanser - Liquid Facial Soap

3) Clarifying Lotion - Formulas for oilier skin help sweep away oil, maintain clearer skin.

4) Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel - To replenish oil. As my skin type is 3, a gel moisturiser is more suitable as it’s oil-free as well as having an oil control effect.

5) Eye Cream

Moisture Surge - To reduce dark circles & puffiness

Derma White - Brightening effect. It comes in 2 containers. For day & night. The day eye cream has Spf 15 for sun protection.

6) Hydratant - To replenish water.

7) Super City Block Oil-Free Daily Face Protector SPF 40- Tinted. It comes in Spf 25 & 40. Can be worn alone or as an invincible make up primer.

* I personally have been using Clinique Super City Sunblock Spf 25 for 7 years now. It definitely protects and acts as a good base. It also suits my skin.

8) Mask

Exfoliating Mask - For a more radiant skin tone. Though may not be suitable for skin suffering from acne.

Deep Cleansing Mask – Suitable for oily skin and those suffering from acne.

Now this was what I was disappointed with. I didn’t get to try the Instant Facial Mask! I was looking forward to this as I was contemplating on whether I should purchase this product. It promotes surface cell turnover on multiple levels to instantly unveil skin that's fresher, more vibrant and even-toned

Whilst the other tables were taking their time trying the products, my table was going through the steps at near lightning speed that the SAs who attended to us totally left out the mask step. Am I serious? Yes! By the time we finished steps 1 through 7 the rest of the tables were taking their time applying the mask. When I asked the SAs about the left out mask step, neither of them could answer me. Instead they tried to make up for the lost step by saying that we could try the mask on our hand instead. There wasn’t really a point to that. I think everyone at my table was terribly disappointed.

We waited for everyone else to finish their skincare steps before going for tea break. Finger foods and light refreshments were served.
