EARLY DETECTION OF BREAST CANCER SAVES LIVES!!

It's nearly time for Breast Cancer Awareness month! Every October Estée Lauder organises various events to create awareness and has been the main organisation who champions this cause for the past 13 years.

The theme this year is CONNECT. COMMUNICATE. CONQUER. – to connect to all your family and friends and communicate to them the importance of early detection and we are then (together) be able to conquer breast cancer one woman at a time.

Last year's Walk for World Pink was a huge success! Despite it not being on the agenda this year, Estée Lauder will be organising various other events and activities to raise awareness and also to raise funds.

Happenings in October:

5th October – Illumination of Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad ( to raise awareness)

8- 10th Oct – Mid Valley Mall event : Free health checks, free health talks with surgeons and oncologist from Sime Darby Healthcare, Sony Photo wall, body paint and limited edition Pink merchandises on sale where all proceed goes to the fund

15 – 17th Oct – One Utama Mall event : Free health checks, free health talks with surgeons and oncologist from Sime Darby Healthcare, Sony Photo wall, body paint and limited edition Pink merchandises on sale where all proceed goes to the fund

28th Oct – Charity Golf Competition at KLGCC

29th Oct – A Pink Charity evening with Frances Yip

For those of you who went for the events organised last year, do go for the ones this year too. And to those who missed out on last year's you won't regret attending this year's events. Not only will you learn more about breast cancer and how to do a self-examination which is really important, the funds raised from purchasing any of the Limited Edition Pink Merchandises will go towards the cause.

Let me share with you some pictures from the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign events I attended last year.

Walk for World Pink 2009

Go Pink! October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. In conjunction with this the Estee Lauder Group of Company organised the Walk for World Pink last Saturday 3/10/2009 at KL Tower to create awareness as well as to support the cause. For the whole month of October KL Tower will be illuminated in PINK! For the third year running. It is a sight to behold. So if you have not seen the tower in pink yet, what are you waiting for.

Registration and t-shirt collection started at 5pm. First up, put on the pink t-shirt to get into the mood! Then there was face painting where participants could get their face painted with the Breast Cancer Awareness logo. Did not manage to get mine done though. Was a bit tied up with walking around being curious.

The fountain area where the tower illumination was to be held later was decorated will all things pink. Gorgeous pink roses adorned the surroundings. Backdrop of the Walk for World Pink and the Global Illumination map provided the perfect background for pictures.

There were white tents with pink scallops set up for Information & Donation, Breast Awareness, Lab Series 'A fresher U in 2' for the men and Estee Lauder Counter offering the Evelyn Lauder Lip Design Set part of the Pink Ribbon Collection for RM80, the proceeds of which will go to the 2009 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign fund. 30 hampers were up for grabs. Was looking lustfully at the Bobbi Brown hamper. But alas it was not meant to be. *Sob*

After being kept occupied with the Mix.fm roadrunners, entertained by the Charm Cheerleaders and the formation of the Human Ribbon, 10 minutes to go.

630 pm - The Walk was on, led by a group of breast cancer survivors. The walk down the tower was a breeze. The route taken was down Jalan Sultan Ismail, towards Jalan Ampang then turned into Jalan Raja Chulan. 35 mins later I was back at the tower. The thirst! Collected my goodie bag. It was either EL's little brown bottle or Origin's Plantidote range sample size. I got the Origins one with a bottle of water.

830 pm - Tower illumination. Laser shows, base jumpers & bright pink lights! It looked amazing!
