You guys may have seen a flood of 'just woke up' selfies on the weekend of March 8th. It is part of Marie Claire Malaysia 'Wake Up To A Good Cause' campaign in conjunction with the magazine turning 21 this year. The campaign, in support of Women's Aid Organisation (WAO) aims t create awareness on violence against women while raising funds for WAO. It is shocking to note that one in every three women in the world has suffered from some from of abuse. WAO has estimated that 39% of Malaysian women have either been physically, mentally or emotionally abused.

Not only is she amazing on stage but Alicia Keys is also doing amazing things to help children and families affected by HIV. To promote awareness on what the Keep a Child Alive Foundation is trying to do, a video was shown before the Alicia Keys Live In Malayisa 2013 - Set The World On Fire concert tour I went to last week with Kiehl's Malaysia. If you don't already know, this is where you need to be this afternoon at 3-6pm!  The The Society For Prevention of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA) is organising Rent A Hope today at Central Park Avenue, One Utama. With a donation of RM20, you can walk or play with a dog in the park for 20 minutes. This is part of SPCA's adoption drive that will help to rehome 130 dogs and 60 cats in order for renovation and construction of a brand new ECO SPCA Centre which will kick start 30 days from now! It's a great way to get to know the dogs and get the feel of being a dog owner. You might just be ready to adopt and help out these cute darlings!

Okie I lied! There was a Good Cause but there were no heels for me. A minor accident left me with a soar ankle giving me an excuse to wear my pretty green flats. The picture of me doing a "Limp..Drag..Limp..Drag.." routine in heels comes to mind. Could have been quite amusing.

Be it heels or flats, there was a huge turn out for a Charity Walk by The Body Shop and Glam Magazine on Saturday evening to Stop Sex Trafficking of Children & Young People. Did you know that in Malaysia, Tenaganita estimates that 90 children go missing every month. Bet you didn't know that. Well neither did I. A shocking figure! The worst part is Malaysia is not just a destination but also a source and transit point for young people who are trafficked. Seriously what has this country come to? Trafficking of Children, protected wildlife, what next??

A lot of people signed up on the spot after finding out what the walk was about. It was really encouraging!

Around the world, more than 2.5 million people are trafficked every year. Out of this alarming number, 1.2 million are under the age of 18. Globally, this results in USD27 billion in profits which is the third largest sum for international crimes after illegal drugs and arms trafficking. (Source: ECPAT)

This is a global campaign intitiated by The Body Shop more than three years ago and has achieved a milestone this year when more than 10,000 petitions were presented to the government urging them to ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights to the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography. These signatures were collected in less than three weeks by staff of The Body Shop. My signature is there and I sure hope yours is too.

All funds received through the walk will be channeled to Tenaganita, PS the Children and Nur Salam for their continuous work on child sex trafficking. Funds were collected through registration fees by participants who took part in the walk as well as through the Kick The bag campaign which The Body Shop runs throughout the country. Funds for this campaign are collected through a RM0.50 donation when customers take a bag. Should they refuse one, The Body Shop then donates that sum to the fund.

Everyone plays an important role to curb this serious predicament from getting any worse. Despite the fact that Malaysia has an Anti-Trafficking Act, the specific awareness on the trafficking of children for sexual purposes is still lacking. This sanction will further strengthen laws and will hopefully put a stop to the issue here in Malaysia.

I know what you "young-lings" must be wondering.. buddy killed who?? Buddy didn't kill anyone really, he just made girls swoon. I'm talking about Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis nicknamed "The Killer", the pioneers of Rock & Roll way back in 1940's. Okie I'm not ancient but I grew up listening to songs by deceased Rock & Roll stars, except for Jerry Lee Lewis who is still burning up the keys at 75! Songs back then were so much simpler and easier to appreciate. It didn't rely on fancy equipments or state of the art instruments, it was just pure talent and soul!

I was lucky enough to catch the charity performance of Buddy vs The Killer by British Theatre Playhouse, courtesy of The Body Shop Malaysia. There was no ifs and buts about it, just straight up YES when I was invited!! Saying no was just sheer insanity.

The charity performance, a day earlier than the actual performance date was to raise funds for Yayasan Tunku Naquiyuddin, a foundation that focuses on helping underprivileged children in the area of healthcare and eduction. The proceeds for this special charity performance will go to the 'Stop Dengue Mission' programme.
