La Mer Skincolour De La Mer - Review

By 01:07 , , , ,

Base products get luxurious with La Mer. Skincolour De La Mer is the first full range of color cosmetics from the luxury skin-care brand. Unlike your usual  base products the latest La Mer Skincolour De La Mer range is infused with its potent legendary Miracle Broth - made from nutrient rich kelp and other natural ingredients which renews and helps to restore skin. Which basically means it's a skincare makeup. According to La Mer, "it (referring to the foundation) works like a skin-care product and even after someone takes it off at night, it’s still making their skin better. The more you use it, the better results you see." I am already a huge fan of the La Mer Moisturising Soft Lotion (review here), so I was well excited to try the Skincolour range.

The Soft Liquid Long Wear Foundation SPF 20 infused with the Miracle Broth and combined with all-new Colour Capsule technology, which delivers skin-matching pigments in clear capsules to achieve the truest skintone. It also contains a “Velvet Algae”, which is found in the North Atlantic and is said to help enliven and soften the look of skin. The foundation has this beautiful gel formulation that is slightly heavy. It blends out seemlessly and I find that it has a velvety finish on me, not too dewy. When it comes to getting matched, it's a bit different then - first, you pick your natural shade, which goes from Very Fair to Medium Deep, and then pick the undertone, cooler or warmer. I was matched to the shade Tan which is the best match for me from the range. Check out the online shade matcher. The SPF and antioxidants help protect the complexion.

The foundation is made to be applied with the Foundation Brush. What can I say, it's lush! It feels amazingly soft on the skin. The tapered shape enables a precise application and the density is perfect for that soft finish. Compared to the density of a buffing brush, it does takes me a bit more time to blend out the foundation to get that soft finish.

The Powder is a dream. Unlike the previous powder this reformulated one is infused with La Mer's legendary miracle broth. The formula is developed with symmetrically shaped, uniquely coated particles which gives it that weightless texture and translucent finish. The texture is ultra fine and soft. It comes in a light shade but goes on pretty much like a translucent loose powder. There is some micro shimmer which comes from natural particles when you see it upclose but it is not detectable once on the face, although it's meant to give that soft radiant finish. There is a puff but I prefer applying it with a brush. I have tried this is with other foundations and it works just as well.

The combination of both foundation and powder feels light on the skin. The coverage of the foundation is a light to almost medium. So if you have any imperfetions, a concealer is needed. It looks natural on the skin, it also makes my skin appear smooth. The foundation wears comfortably. The powder helps sets the foundation and matiffies any part of my face that tends to get shiny, basically the entire face. Foundation and powder lasts quite well for about 5 hours with a base, as I have oily skin. Despite shine setting in, the foundation seem to stay in tact without any patchiness. Overall it has a really beautiful finish.

Both The Soft Liquid Long Wear Foundation and The Powder comes in a heavy frosted glass bottle and glass jar repsectively reflecting its luxurious nature. It looks fantastic on the vanity table but I can't imagine them to be very travel friendly due to the weight. I would definitely need to put them in small containers for travelling.

The Soft Liquid Long Wear Foundation SPF 20 is designed to be versatile and give you various looks. I got to see the looks at the demonstration during the launch session and can safely say that I have tried two out of three looks as it is how I would normally use my base products. You can create three different looks with the La Mer Foundation - Soft Matte, Natural Beauty and Radiance Glow (this look wasn't for me as I'm oily enough).

For a soft matte look, powder is essential. Apply the loose powder to the entire to ensure that there is no shine or dewiness. Consider 'baking' if you have oily skin. For a natural look blend the foundation with the La Mer Soft Lotion. This will give you a luminous look. However if you have oily skin, you don't really need to add a moisturiser, the natural oils will help it look natural. If you are going for that Radiance Glow, either add oil with the foundation or add a little bit of oil on top of the cheeks after.

The La Mer Skincolour range is no doubt a huge splurge but if you are a La Mer fan or are into luxe skincare infused makeup then this range is already at all La Mer outles and the price tags are as follows - The Soft Liquid Long Wear Foundation SPF 20 comes in 8 shades RM475 (1oz), The Powder RM370 (0.28oz) and The Foundation Brush RM280.
