Rock & Roll Baby!! - buddy vs the killer
I know what you "young-lings" must be wondering.. buddy killed who?? Buddy didn't kill anyone really, he just made girls swoon. I'm talking about Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis nicknamed "The Killer", the pioneers of Rock & Roll way back in 1940's. Okie I'm not ancient but I grew up listening to songs by deceased Rock & Roll stars, except for Jerry Lee Lewis who is still burning up the keys at 75! Songs back then were so much simpler and easier to appreciate. It didn't rely on fancy equipments or state of the art instruments, it was just pure talent and soul!
I was lucky enough to catch the charity performance of Buddy vs The Killer by British Theatre Playhouse, courtesy of The Body Shop Malaysia. There was no ifs and buts about it, just straight up YES when I was invited!! Saying no was just sheer insanity.
The charity performance, a day earlier than the actual performance date was to raise funds for Yayasan Tunku Naquiyuddin, a foundation that focuses on helping underprivileged children in the area of healthcare and eduction. The proceeds for this special charity performance will go to the 'Stop Dengue Mission' programme.

Also made possible by Hilton Kuala Lumpur, guests were served a wonderful 3-course meal.
And for dinner I had...
Seared Tuna Loin with Spicy Watermelon Sauce Black Sesame Seeds
Slow Braised Te Spice Beef Short Rib with Parsnip and Potato Puree, French Beans, Braising Jus
Croustillant of Pine Nut Chocolate Mousse and Orange
This was delightful!
Let the show begin...
I was curious to see how Bill Geraghty was going to play both Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis but by the time the show ended I was well impressed! He was nothing less than brilliantly fantastic!!
Buddy Holly "on double bass"!!
Buddy Holly married Maria Elena Holly
The Day the Music Died
Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper killed in a plane crash!!
Jerry Lee Lewis
There were also appearances by other Rock & Roll stars, not the real ones of course. Would be really phreaky if it were. The King himself - Elvis Presley (OMG! I saw Elvis! Alive! Lol!), Johnny Cash, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, Carl Perkins, Bill Hayley. Now that's what I call star studded!!
Ritchie Valens
The Big Bopper
Million Dollar Quartet
Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis & Johnny Cash
Some of the songs they played (Made me wanna dance!!) - Rock Around The Clock, It's So Easy, Peggy Sue, Chantilly Lace, Come On Lets Go, Donna, Good Golly Miss Molly, Raining In My Heart, Whole Lotta Shakin, Breathless, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, Shake Rattle and Roll, La Bamba, Blue Suede Shoes, Jambalaya and the most anticipated one of the night - GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!!
You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane
You broke my will, oh what a thrill
Goodness gracious great balls of fire
The back part of the piano was actually in flames but it didn't go high enough so I couldn't capture it clearly.. soo cool!!
That was me at intermission with my signature pose.. :P
(Apparently a lot of people noticed this pose.. lol)
Tammy was there too..
My evening ended on a high note, I enjoyed myself to the max!! The performance was spectacular made possible by a stellar cast! Thanks loads The Body Shop, once again you guys rock!!
