The Body Shop Express & Impress Makeover Experience
If you've found yourself walking past The Body Shop Express & Impress Makeover posters in store recently and you're not sure what it's about, well let me tell you more about it. Psst.. there's a contest involved!
With the latest introduction of The Body Shop Colour Crush lippies and Colour Crush Eyeshadows, I was invited to experience what the Express & Impress Makeover is about. Using some of The Body Shops latest products, Vinz, The Body Shop Malaysia Trainer and Head Makeup Artist explained to me step-by-step on how to achieve the look you guys see in the first photo. Despite taking loads of photos and listening intently I will never achieve the same result so I was just happy to be there learning about the new products.
The look Vinz chose for me mainly focused on the eyes with almost nude lips. Love strong eyes, epecially if it includes dark colours. I can't run away from something rock chick or maybe more chic with this one.
that's Vinz, he's got mad skills!!
The makeup I came with had to be removed first before starting. So Vinz used the new Camomile Waterproof Eye & Lip Make-up Remover. The camomile oil and water used is from Norfolk, England under The Body Shop Community Trade Programme. It's very gentle, does not sting the eyes and yet effectively removes waterproof mascara with ease. For the face, Vinz used the Vitamin E Cleansing Wipes to remove the rest of my makeup.
Before starting with the base, he spritz on the Vitamin E Face Mist to prep the skin. Vinz chose to use the All-In-One BB Cream in Shade 02 for my skin tone. It transform from a white cream to suit the skin tone when the pigment-filled capsules burst releasing the colour. If you have this but you're still not sure how to use it, here are some tips. First squeeze out on to the back of your hand or a bowl or palette, use your fingers to apply onto the face, then smooth it out with a foundation brush. For a smooth almost flawless finish use a sponge to blend it out. I was amazed with the results. First I thought the colour wasn't going to match but surprisingly it turned out alright and the finish was ultra smooth, even covered up my dark acne scars and the annoying live red one I had on my nose. Don't see do you? Lol! To cover up my dark circles, the All-In-One Concealer (03) and the Stick Concealer was used. To set the base, Vinz applied the All-In-One Face Base (05) sparingly so as to avoid any unsightly cakiness.
Then the eyes... the eyes undoubtedly requires a base as well, especially with my oily lids issues. You can use the All-In-One BB Cream as a base, just apply a thin layer. The trend at the moment is not to colour the whole eye up to your brows. That's just 2000-and too many years ago. So colour only goes up to your crease with the darker shade blended very smoothly into the crease, no further. Best to apply some loose powder under the eye to catch any fall out. First apply Colour Crush Eyeshadow in Steel My Heart (005) to the entire lid, leaving the tail end slightly bare. Then apply Colour Crush Eyeshadow in Moonlight Kiss (015) at the tail end in a 'V' shape and blend inwards and half way into the crease. Being a tad technical here, the ratio is 70:30. The look will not work with too much of the dark shade on the lid. Then apply Liquid Liner in Black on upper lash line and Carbon Eye Definer in Black at the outer corner of the lower lash line, smudging it half way in. Then apply 1 coat of Big and Curvy Mascara on the upper and lower lashes, 2 coats if your prefer more lash definition.
No here's the tricky part and requires loads of practice. It took me a long while before I got it right. The Body Shop style of achieving defined brows is to lightly draw the brow shape with a Brow Definer in Dark Brown and fill it in using the Brow and Liner Kit. The tip to making the brows look good is to get it properly shaped first and don't forget to get rid of any strays.
And now for the lips. Trying out the all New Colour Crush Lipsticks (which is replacing the Colourglide Lip Colour)! It is categorised in three main shades - reds, pinks and neutrals. For this look Vinz chose two shades from the neutral range - Darlin Blush (325) and Coral Kiss (315). To get the perfect lip line apply with a lip brush. For the dual colour effect, Vinz applied Darlin Blush as the base colour on the entire lips and then applied Coral Kiss on the centre on the upper and lower lips, to give the colour more depth. To add some colour to my cheeks Vinz used the All-In-One Cheek Colour in Flushed (03) which is a pink shade. To finish it all off, Vinz lightly Spritz the Vitamin E Face Mist to set the makeup. All done!
