The Body Shop Oils Of Life Skincare Range Review
I'm not going to lie, I was a tad apprehensive about the whole oil based products on my face. I have had unpleasant experiences in the past but I decided to give this a go mainly because it is not mineral oils. The Body Shop Oils of Life range was introduced a few months back and it's a range that draws you to it when you are browsing in store just by looking all kinds of fancy. I mean, just look at the Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil bottle. Feel like touching it don't you? Ok, before this sounds more weird than it already does, here's a bit of background.
The Body Shop Oils of Life range is formulated to give new life to your skin - it intensely revitalises skin, revive radiance and leave your skin feeling nourished. The Intensely Revitalising range is infused with 3 precious seed oils - black cumin, seed oil, camellia oil and rosehip oil, known for their supreme revitalising and repairing properties on the skin. It is also highly sensorial.

You guys must be wondering why am I using oil based products when I have oily acne prone skin. After doing some reading on the subject, I learned that some oils are really healthy for the skin and have nutritive benefits especially when used in their purest form as they have the most potent active ingredients which is what The Body Shop uses for this new range. I wasn't sure what to expect but I kept an open mind. I planned to try out the range for a month before sharing my thoughts but it has been two months now and I am loving the results!
I incorporated 3 products from the Oils of Life range into my daily routine - Intensely Revitalising Bi-Phase Essence Lotion, Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil and Intensely Revitalising Cream. After using the three products for a few days morning and night I opted to just use it in the p.m. because I find that it tend to get a bit heavy during the day. Even by using it at night only I found that the hydrating results last through out the day.
The Intensely Revitalising Bi-Phase Essence Lotion (RM125 - 160ml) is a unique oil + water formula which is an essential 1st step after cleansing. It is a daily lotion that prepares and activate skin for the next step. Due to its dual formula, it feels light and fresh. The water makes it feel really cooling as well. My skin feels softened and prepped for the Facial Oil. You can either use this with a cotton pad or pouring a few drops into your palm. I prefer the cotton pad for this one.

The Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil (RM199 - 30ml) targets to intensely revitalise skin, instantly replenish moisture and revive radiance while visibly reducing signs of aging. This was a real surprise for me, despite being made from 99% oils of natural origins, it is lightweight and absorbs so easily and quickly into the skin without leaving any sticky residue. My skin feels soft and nourished after using the oil. I use between 1-2 drops for my face an neck. I just drop into the palm of my hands, warm it up, massage gently onto my face and neck. The dropper dispenser makes it easy to gauge the amount needed.
The Intensely Revitalising Cream (RM158 - 50ml) is a silky textured cream with perfecting micro-pearls. I find that although it feels rich, it is not heavy. It absorbs effortlessly into the skin and leaves it feeling comfortable with no stickiness. I only scoop out a tiny amount, warm it up and press it in. This comes in a Gel Cream variant if you are looking for a lighter texture that could be used during the day.
During the first week of using this I actually experienced some irritation and some bumps did pop up. But after the second week, my skin calmed down, the irritation went away and it just got used to the whole oil thing. I noticed that my skin started looking radiant and revived. After the first month, my skin felt supple and well balanced. I didn't experience any extra oiliness during the day, rather it helped balance out the skin and I wasn't looking too oily at all. Despite my t-zone being it's usual oily self, the lines on my nose were less visible.
Now since it was all oil based, did I experience clogging? This surprised me as well. Apart from the usual clogging episode that I have, I did not experience any extra or unusual clogging. On the whole I noticed that I was breaking out a lot less and there was slightly less clogging. Not taking into account the monthly pms bump or two, it seemed to calm down my skin making it look clearer. Two months on, my skin is doing pretty good. It feels soft, nourished and all round refreshed.
Two months on
I figured since you guys are so used to seeing my face with breakouts, unevenness and looking all so tired, I decided to just share my current skin situation. Bare face in the photo with tinted lip balm.
The scent is something I feel I have to address, it's unlike what you would normally expect - no fragrance, slight floral fragrance anything of that sort. The Oils of Life range smells like spices despite the Camellia and Rosehip oils. The Black Cumin can a bit much to some, says a friend of mine who is not a huge fan of the scent, and I have to agree with her but I feel it's something that needs a little getting use to. The packaging for the Oils of Life range is different from the usual The Body Shop skincare range. It has a more luxurious feel. The Bi-Phase Essence Lotion is housed in a sturdy gold plastic container with embossed black cover. The cream in a gold jar, while the Facial Oil however comes in a warm amber-gold glass bottle to reflect the intense 99% oil content.
