New! Redken Curvaceous
This one is specially for you curly haired babes out there. Redken recently launched their latest range especially formulated for curly or curled/permed hair called Redken Curvaceous at Toyako Loft Salon. Watching the TVC at the launch it seems to me that this range has potential to actually work on my hair. Which means I can wash my hair, use the styling products and go out of the house with curls in tact without turning into a frizz ball by noon. Imagine that, not having to spend 90 minutes sorting out the curls, excluding washing time, before being able to look presentable. *shakes head*
New Redken Curvaceous is a complete collection of haircare and styling products specially formulated to reactivate curls and waves. Redken's exclusive Curl Memory Complex and the Interlock Protein Network (IPN) strengthen, moisturise and reactivate shape making the curls more manageable, increase frizz control and gives it amazing shine up to 3 days.
The technology that makes this range works is the Curl Memory Complex which is designed to provide solutions to curly hair issues thereby restoring the curls - dryness, fragility, dullness, frizz and lack of definition.
What makes up the Curl Memory Complex
The Interlock Protein Network is comprised of three ingredients that works together in the wet and dry phases to repair hair from the inside out.
Need to know Curly hair facts
If you think those natural curls are healthy and strong you are seriously mistaken. Natural curly hair is more fragile than straight hair. The twist in the hair weakens the fiber causing cracks and breakage.
Natural curly hair is prone to frizz regardless whether it's baby soft, very fine to extremely coarse. When curly hair is coarse, it means it's dry and requires moisture to eliminate and prevent frizz. Humidity is also another huge contributor to frizz. This happens because the porous nature of the hair fiber allows the water in the air to absorb into the hair causing each strand to swell resulting in a frizz ball effect.
Natural curly hair will appear dull as light is trapped inside the spirals of the curls. However defined curls are more likely to reflect light making it appear shiny. Natural curly hair is super thirsty! The curls make it difficult for the natural oils to coat and moisturise each strand hence the dryness making it loads more susceptible to damage.
And if you aren't already aware of it by now, which I'm sure you are especially you natural curly heads, curly hair is plural. L'Oreal has developed the Curl Pattern Scale (below) to help define each type or curl and wave.
In order to facilitate the navigation and diagnosis, Redken created the below Curl scale. There usually is one primary curl type however natural curly hair will have an average of 2-3 types of curls on one head. Seriously!
Take my crazy curls for example, the bottom half is Type II Wavy, the medium part is Type III Curly and the top part is Type IV Curly. Try managing that why don't you! It's a complete nightmare!
From Redken's official site I noticed there are 7 products from Redken Curvaceous range. However at the launch here there were only 4. That might just be enough to sort out issues faced by curly heads. The shampoo cleanses, adds moisture and defines without weighing down curls. The conditioner then moisturises curls further for extra definition and softness. To style there is the Curvaceous Full Swirl which is a 2 in 1 cream/serum formula to fight frizz, seal in moisture and locks out humidity. The new Curvaceous Ringlet controls and defines the curls giving it a soft hold.
You can bet your little behind I'll be trying out this range. I'm insanely curious to see whether it can tame my crazy curls once and for all. It would be such a dream if it could , which would mean less time sorting them out! Follow Redken Malaysia on facebook or visit www.redken.com to find out more about the products.

some of the curly hair styles that the stylists from Toyako Loft Salon came up with
What makes up the Curl Memory Complex
- Sugar Crystals: Super sweet sugar polyol attracts moisture to curls and waves to reactivate their patter. Curls become more bouncy and hydrated
- Moringa Oil: Drench dry, dehydrated curls with a refreshing boost of moisture for playful bounce and shine.
- Interlock Protein Network: Composed of Soy Protein, acts at the tension point of "hi-stress" curls to give a boost of strength for all day manageability.
- UV Filter: Shields ringlets and helps protect coloured curls and waves.
The Interlock Protein Network is comprised of three ingredients that works together in the wet and dry phases to repair hair from the inside out.
- Keralink - A specialised protein copolymer that acts in the wet phase by binding moisture to hair while helping strengthen deep within the hair fiber.
- Amino Acids and Protein - Act together in the dry phase creating an iconic bond with hair's keratin to rebuild surface protection and help enhance hair's texture and shine.
